Manu Peru Tour – 5 Days Casa Matsiguenka

For the second day of our Cusco to Manu tour, we’ll continue to travel by boat. At 5 am we’ll depart. breakfast will be on board. The flow will take us for 4 hours on the Alto Madre de Dios River.

Eventually, we’ll arrive at Manu River. Our destination is the Control Station. Here we’ll stop for a short check. After this we’ll be entering the Manu Reserved Zone.

On our journey on the boat we’ll see different animals around us. Our guide will be vigilant so you don’t miss any encounter. 

Lunch will be on the boat, while we try to see the spectacular wildlife. After our mealm, we will make a breif stop of our boat ride in the Amazon basin of Manu (Peru) at Cocha Otorongo.

This is an oxbow lake with an observational tower. This place is popular for the species of birds you can observe here. The most iconic ones arethe Hoatzin and the black and white caimans

We’ll be arriving at Casa Matsiguenka during the afternoon. This lodge is managed by the Matsiguenka native communities of Manu (Peru). 

For our Manu (Peru) exploration of the day, we’ll explore Cocha Salvador. This is another Amazon rainforest’s oxbow lake. The highlight will be the local family of giant river otters. Catamaran boat will take us across the lake to observe birds and caimans. 

We’ll return to Casa Matsiguenka for lunch. After lunch, we’ll go on a walking expedition through the jungle. We may see a harpy eagle. The exploration of these protected areas is highly recommended.

We’ll go back to Casa Matsiguenka to have our dinner. But the day is not over. We’ll go on a night walk in the Peruvian Amazon. Manu (Peru) offers a different perspective in the dark.

In Manu (Peru) one of the most elusive animals is the Jaguar. We’ll get up early to go try to spot it by boat. We’ll leave the Casa Matsiguenka lodge. On the mission, we’ll also encounter tapirs, turtles, caimans and others. 

After 4 hours in the Manu River, we’ll be back at the Control Station. We’ll be leaving the Manu (Peru) Reserved Zone. 

Eventually we’ll make our way to the Alto Madre de Dios River. The ride will continue to the Treehouse Inn.

In Treehouse Inn, we’ll have a magnificent dinner with native products. The Manu Peru exploration continues with a casual walk. We’ll explore our Private reserve zone. We’ll encounter nocturnal creatures like snakes, tarantulas and bats.

Our Cusco to Manu Tour will be over soon. After breakfast, we’ll take our boat back to Atalaya. This will be our last opportunity to appreciate the Amazon basin.  

In Atalaya we’ll take our private transport. We’ll pass through the cloud forest in the direction to the andean region. Our Cusco arrival will be around 6 pm.
