Itinerary

Day 1Cusco - Cloud Forest - Atalaya port - Rainforest Inn

The Manu National Park tours begin in Cusco. The hotel pick happens around 4:00 and 4:30 am. We’ll travel by bus. The first stop will be at the town of Paucartambo for breakfast.

Our journey continues across the mountains. We’ll stop at Acjanaco Mountain to witness the panoramic view of the Amazon. Before entering the Manu reserved Zone, we’ll explore the high forest zones.

We’ll enjoy a walk across the cloud forest with our tour guide. We’ll encounter different species of monkeys and birds. Our guide will take us to a known nest site of the Andean cock-of-the-rock. 

The flora and fauna of the Cloud forest is unique. Our Amazon Tours Manu continue. We’ll have lunch picnic style. So you can enjoy lunch in a natural setting.

We’ll drive for some more hours. We’ll reach the community of Atalaya. In the Atalaya river port we’ll take a motor boat. The boat ride will last for 2 hours. We’ll traverse the Madre de Dios River and enjoy the sundown over the Alto Madre de Dios River.

We’ll finish our boat journey in the Rainforest Inn. Dinner will be in the Rainforest Inn. We’ll spend the night here. We’ll continue the next day on our Manu National Park tours.

Day 2Rainforest Inn - Control Station - Cocha Otorongo - Casa Matsiguenka

We’ll restart our Manu National Park Tours early. You’ll have to wake up before 5:00 am. At 5 we’ll take our boat. We’ll travel downstream across the Madre de Dios River. This will take about 4 hours. Breakfast will be on the boat.

We’ll eventually enter the Manu river. We’ll be closer to the Amazon Manu Tours and the Manu Reserved Zone. We’ll pass the control point in the Control station. We’ll be entering the Manu Reserved Zone. 

While we are on the river, we’ll see birds around the river fishing. We’ll also have encounters with caimans. Maybe we’ll get to see capybaras and other famous animals. 

Our tour guide will be vigilant so you don’t miss anything. We’ll have lunch on the boat.

For some exploration day tour, we’ll stop at Cocha Otorongo. This is a famous Oxbow lake. We’ll observe the flora and fauna from an observational tower. The tower is at 65.6 ft / 20 m of altitude.

From the tower you will observe native birds, caimans of different species. You’ll also get to know the Hoatzin, one of the rarest birds in the Amazon.

The Manu National park tours continue. We’ll travel a little more, while entering the Manu Cultural Zone. After a safe return we will arrive at Casa Matsiguenka Lodge by evening.

Day 3Casa Matsiguenka - Cocha Salvador - Manu Reserved Zone Tours

For the third day of our Manu National  Park Tours, we’ll visit Cocha Salvador. We’ll enjoy a ride in catamaran style boats. We’ll encounter monkeys around the lake. But the main encounter is the local family of giant river otters.

We’ll return to our camp for lunch. In the afternoon we’ll have a walk in the Manu Reserved Zone. 

We’ll search for monkeys. Our guide will show us local medicinal plants. This will be an unforgettable experience.

We’ll enjoy the sunset in the Manu Reserved Zone. We’ll return to Casa Matsiguenka for dinner. But the Manu National Park tours will not be over.

After dinner we’ll go on a night walk. This is a chance to observe nocturnal creatures. We’ll find frogs, snakes and nocturnal primates. 

You’ll have another angle of the local flora and fauna. After this we’ll go to rest for the night. We’ll continue our Amazon Tours Manu in the morning.

Day 4Casa Matsiguenka - Jaguar Sighting - Control Station - Rainforest Inn

Even before the daybreak, we’ll be up. Our mission, observe a jaguar. We’ll invest 4 hours trying to spot a Jaguar in the Manu Reserved Zone. After this we’ll take our boat transport back to the Control Station. 

With this we’ll be leaving the Manu reserved zone. We’ll return to the buffer zone of Manu. Our boat ride will take 4 hours. We’ll have lunch on board.

Different animals will show up during this boat ride. The Manu National Park Tours is full of opportunities.

Our journey will take us up stream the Alto Madre de Dios River. We’ll arrive at the Rainforest Inn. Then, we’ll have a magnificent dinner with beverages made with local products.

To finish the night, we’ll have another night walk. We’ll explore the flora and fauna. Among the nocturnal creatures we may encounter, there will be bats and tarantulas. You’ll get to know many creatures in the Manu National Park tours. This will be all for the day.

Day 5Rainforest Inn - Parrots Clay Licks - Hot Springs - Treehouse Inn

This day, for our Manu National Park tours, we’ll enjoy a natural spectacle. We’ll rise before dawn. We’ll travel for 30 minutes by boat downstream to encounter the parrots clay licks. Observe hundreds of parrots flying to consume the clay on a canyon wall. 

After the spectacle, we’ll return to the Rainforest Inn. Breakfast will wait for us in the Inn. And the adventures on the Amazon Tours Manu continue. 

We’ll explore the jungle by foot. What we’ll find will be determined by luck, but it is an amazing experience.

After the walk, we’ll arrive at Manu’s hot springs. These thermal baths have medicinal properties. We’ll have lunch at the hot spring balneary.

In the afternoon, we’ll travel by boat until we reach the Palotoa River. We’ll change our transport. For the next leg of our boat ride, we’ll navigate in Peke peke. A local kind of motor boat that is smaller but faster.

We’ll go upstream of the Palotoa River. Our destination is the Treehouse Inn. We’ll have dinner and sleep in these lodges. 

Day 6Treehouse Inn - Jungle walk - River Tubing

For our Manu National Park tours of the Day, we’ll start with a great breakfast. After this we’ll go on a 3 hour walk across the jungle. Some of the possible encounters of the day are sloths and anteaters. 

The Amazon Tours Manu of the day will occur around Treehouse Inn. We’ll have lunch in the inn. After lunch we’ll travel upstream the Palotoa rivet to do River tubing.

We’ll float down the river. The current will take us directly to the Treehouse Inn. This is a mild adventure activity. River tubing takes around 45 minutes.

The next activity of the day is dinner in Treehouse Inn. To finish the Manu National Park Tours of the day, we’ll go on a night walk nearby the Inn. 

Day 7Treehouse Inn - Macaw Clay licks - Private Reserve Visit

To start the Manu National Park Tours we’ll get a second chase to see the Macaw Clay Licks. We’ll walk 20 minutes to arrive at the site. We’ll return to Treehouse Inn for breakfast.

In Treehouse’s Private Reserve, we’ll do some exploration. We’ll encounter different animals and medicinal plants. We’ll be back at the Inn for lunch. 

In the evening we’ll have a culinary experience. You’ll learn about the preparation of the native dish: Paca moto. We’ll cook it on a firebon. This is near the end of our Manu National Park Tours.

Day 8Treehouse Inn - Atalaya Port - Cusco

For the end of our adventure in Manu National Park Tours, we’ll have a last boat ride. We’ll return to the Atalaya port. This is a 3 hour boat ride. You can still spot animals along the way.

We’ll arrive at Atalaya where a private transport will be waiting. The return to Cusco will take some hours. 

You’ll be back to Cusco around 6:00 pm. We’ll drop you at your hotel. This is the end of the adventure on Amazon Tours Manu.

The 8-day Manu Reserved Zone tour with Amazon Tours was an incredible adventure. The biodiversity in Manu National Park is breathtaking.
